Abdi Dalem Experience

Experience an authentic and immersive experience through the Abdi Dalem Experience program at Keraton Yogyakarta. In this tour, you are invited to dive into the traditions, culture and local wisdom that are part of the life of the courtiers, the guardians of the noble values of the kingdom.

Keraton Yogyakarta is a vibrant center of Javanese cultural heritage, where the history, arts, and traditions of the kingdom are preserved and maintained. The palace is also open to the public through cultural and educational activities.

Itinerary

Activity 1

Activity 1 - Wanuh Busana

In this session, male participants will wear one of Abdi Dalem jaler's outfits, peranakan. This outfit consists of dark blue lurik, blangkon, nyamping, and other accessories.

Meanwhile, female participants will wear one of the Abdi Dalem estri outfits consisting of plain or patterned kebaya tangkeban, nyamping, and other accessories complemented by a bun arrangement.

Activity 2

Activity 2 - Marak Sowan

Becak is a mode of transportation that is often used by the Abdi Dalem because they live in the area around the Royal Fort. A becak will take you to the Pelataran Keben area for the Marak Sowan session and continue to the next activity.

Activity 3

Activity 3 - Trap Sila

Trap Sila or Abdi Dalem behavior is manifested in the way of walking, as well as ethics when entering/exiting the room, as well as entering/exiting the Ward.

In Bangsal Pancaniti, you will be invited to learn the ethics and behavior that must be considered by an Abdi Dalem. Enjoy the experience of learning this interesting etiquette before entering the inner area of the Palace.

Take a closer look at the duties and responsibilities of the Abdi Dalem from the Pelataran keben area to the inner area of the palace. End the day with a visit to the Conservation Laboratory and the exciting experience of nyungging batik.

Activity 4

Activity 4 - Conservation Laboratory

You are invited to witness the efforts of the conservators of the Keraton Yogyakarta in preserving the historical value of various objects belonging to the Keraton Yogyakarta.

Activity 5

Activity 5 - Nyungging Batik

In this session, you will be introduced to Awisan Dalem batik motifs (forbidden motifs) in the Keraton Yogyakarta as well as drawing Batik motifs on cloth called nyungging or nyorek.

Activity 5

Activity 5 - Exclusive Lunch

Located at the Bale Raos Restaurant, you will sit cross-legged and enjoy a Rijsttafel-style lunch commonly enjoyed by royalty during the era of Sri Sultan Hamengku Buwono VII. Add this activity to your agenda to complete this priceless experience package.
